Moonshack was founded by Sophia Barton-Pink, a psychotherapist with over two decades of clinical practice. Scent is experienced differently from our other senses. Unlike sight or sound, smell has a direct pathway to areas of the brain involved in memory and emotional association. This is why certain aromas can feel familiar or evocative, often without conscious effort.
Rather than being processed purely through conscious thought, scent is often registered through association. A particular aroma may recall a place, a person, or a moment in time, shaped by individual experience rather than universal meaning.

Known in Hawaiian as ʻIliahi, this rare and precious oil is sustainably grown and distilled on the Big Island of Hawaii.
Rich in antioxidant properties, it is soothing and beneficial to the skin — particularly suited to dry and mature skin types. In aromatherapy it is known for supporting a sense of calm, quieting the mind, and encouraging feelings of tranquility and inner stillness. Botanical Name: Citrus aurantium bergamia

Aroma: Fresh, uplifting citrus with warm floral and subtly spicy undertones.
Native to the Calabria region of southern Italy — where more than 90% of the world’s supply is grown — Bergamot is the oil that gives Earl Grey tea its distinctive character and has been at the heart of fine perfumery for centuries.
Widely used in aromatherapy for its uplifting and emotionally balancing qualities, it works on the nervous system to ease tension and restore a sense of calm.
Our Bergamot is FCF — furanocoumarin-free — meaning the phototoxic compound has been carefully removed, making it safe for use in leave-on skin formulations.

Botanical Name: Lavandula angustifolia

Aroma: Sweet, floral and herbaceous with gentle woody and balsamic undertones.
One of the most extensively researched essential oils in aromatherapy. Lavender is known for its deeply calming and balancing qualities, widely used to support relaxation, ease feelings of stress and tension, and encourage restful sleep. Research suggests it may support skin barrier function, with anti-inflammatory and anti-aging properties.
Clinical studies indicate it may support emotional balance and comfort during periods of hormonal change — including menopause. When combined with Bergamot, as in the Moonshack Sleep Mist, research suggests this pairing may further support sleep quality, reduce stress, and ease menopausal discomfort.

Kabosu

Aroma: Fresh, uplifting and tart lime/mandarin citrus aroma with gentle ripe pear-like undertones.
A rare and precious essential oil, native to the Ōita Prefecture of Japan. Kabosu are small, green sour fruits harvested before ripening — it is at this point that the peel yields its most potent oil.
Rich in antioxidant compounds and with well-documented antimicrobial properties, it is stimulating and refreshing in nature. Vegan and cruelty-free.

Aroma: Incredibly fresh, uplifting and intensely aromatic — a spirited, tangy and zesty citrus with gentle peppery undertones. More vibrant and potent than mature Yuzu, cold pressed from the rind before the fruit fully ripens.
One of the most precious citrus oils in the world. It takes approximately 300 kilos of grated Yuzu peel to produce just 2 kilos of oil — a yield that speaks to its rarity and the care required to bring it from tree to bottle. Cultivated predominantly in Japan, Yuzu has been central to Japanese culture and ritual for centuries. In a tradition dating back to the early 18th century, whole fruits are floated in ceremonial baths on the winter solstice — an experience long considered both invigorating for the skin and elevating for the spirit.
Uplifting and refreshing in nature, it is equally known for its calming and soothing effect on the mind. Antimicrobial and anti-inflammatory, and exceptionally rich in Vitamin C and antioxidants — it is known for its brightening and protective qualities, helping to support a more radiant, even skin tone. Unlike most citrus peel oils, Yuzu contains no phototoxic furanocoumarins — making it entirely safe for use in leave-on skincare formulations.

One of the oldest and most revered aromatic substances known to humanity. Frankincense has been used for thousands of years in sacred ceremony, meditation, and healing traditions across Africa, the Middle East, and beyond — its resin prized above gold in ancient trade routes, its smoke carried as offering across every major civilisation of the ancient world.
Harvested by making careful incisions in the bark of the Boswellia tree, allowing the resin to slowly weep and harden in the dry air before being collected by hand. This ancient, unhurried process has remained unchanged for millennia.
Rich in naturally occurring terpenes including alpha-pinene and limonene, the steam distilled essential oil is known for its antimicrobial and antioxidant properties. In aromatherapy it is widely valued for its profound ability to quiet the mind, deepen the breath, and encourage a state of inner stillness — making it one of the most used oils in meditation and contemplative practice across cultures and centuries.

One of the most revered beauty oils in East Asian tradition — long considered the ancient beauty secret of Japanese Geisha women, who used it to cleanse and nourish their skin in place of water. Known in Japan as Tsubaki oil, it has been central to Japanese skincare ritual for centuries.
Cold pressed from the seeds of the Camellia plant, it is exceptionally lightweight and fast absorbing — delivering deep nourishment without heaviness or residue. Rich in oleic acid, which closely mirrors the skin’s own natural sebum, it supports and strengthens the skin barrier while providing powerful antioxidant and anti-aging properties. Technically not an oil at all — Jojoba is a liquid wax ester, which is precisely what makes it so extraordinary for skin. Its molecular structure so closely mirrors the skin’s own natural sebum that the skin recognises and accepts it immediately — absorbing without trace, without weight, without compromise.
Native to the ancient shrublands of the Sonoran Desert, Jojoba has been used for centuries by indigenous communities of the American Southwest for skin and hair care. Resilient enough to survive one of the harshest climates on earth, it brings that same quality of quiet endurance to the skin it touches.
Known for its ability to support the skin’s natural moisture balance, regulate sebum production, and calm inflammation, it is non-comedogenic and deeply soothing. The Baobab is one of the most ancient and extraordinary trees on earth — capable of living for thousands of years, storing vast reserves of water within its trunk to endure the harshest of droughts. Often called the upside-down tree for its remarkable silhouette, it is considered sacred across African cultures, every part of it — fruit, leaves, bark and seeds — used in traditional medicine for centuries.
Cold pressed from its seeds, Baobab oil is a golden, lightweight oil of rare nutritional depth. Fast absorbing and deeply nourishing, it is exceptionally rich in Omega 3, 6 and 9 fatty acids — known to restore and moisturise the skin, support skin renewal, and promote elasticity. Rich in Vitamins A, D and E, it offers antioxidant protection while reinforcing the skin’s natural barrier. Notably stable, it has a longer natural shelf life than many other botanical oils.
