We use the term Neuroscents to describe essential oils that have been studied for their potential to influence mood, memory, and emotional wellbeing through the brain’s olfactory and limbic systems.
-
Neuroscents are widely recognised for their ability to influence the brain activity via the olfactory system. When inhaled, essential oil molecules bind to receptors in the nasal cavity, triggering signals that travel directly to the limbic system- the part of the brain involved in emotions, memory and the regulation of stress responses.
-
Some essential oils, such as lavender and bergamot, have been studied for their potential calming properties. While they are not medical treatments, many people use them as part of a relaxing routine. Results may vary. The study on neuroscent is an emerging field and more clinical research is needed.

Some essential oils / Neuroscents are commonly used during pregnancy after the first trimester, but sensitivities can vary. We always recommend checking with your doctor or midwife before use.
We also test and label all products to indicate whether they are safe for use during pregnancy and on babies. For all the products, read the label carefully before using. Patch test is highly recommended, especially if you are pregnant, breastfeeding or using products on or around children.

Lavender, Roman Chamomile and Frankincense are popular choices for those looking to create a soothing environment in the evening. Although effects vary from person to person, some find them useful in winding down.
Aromas are experienced directly through the sense of smell, which can evoke emotional response and memory. Unlike other senses, olfactory nerve bypasses the brain relay centre (the thalamus) and connects directly to the limbic system particularly regions as the amygdala (area associated with emotion), hippocampus (linked to memory) and hypothalamus (autonomic regulation). This concept draws on principle of associative learning, where the brain links repeated sensory experiences with specific behavioural patterns.
Overtime, incorporating familiar natural scents into an evening routine may help signal to the brain that it is time to slow down, reinforcing sense of mindful relaxation.
Our SLEEP MIST is specially designed to gently support your wind-down routine.

-
Some of the essential oils in our formulations – such as sweet orange, bitter orange, lemon and other citrus can cause photosensitivity, meaning they increase the skin’s sensitivity to sunlight or UV exposure when applied topically.
Where relevant, we carefully select essential oils at safe concentrations, in the case of bergamot, we use a furanocoumarin-free (FCF) version to help minimise the risk of photosensitivity. It is recommended to use a broad-spectrum sunscreen when using essential oils and products containing essential oils and avoid direct exposure to sun where possible. Conduct a patch test before first use. When in doubt, speak to a skincare professional for personalised advice.
